Abstract (EN)
In this study, the biography of Behice Sultan, the daughter of Sultan Abdulmecid, who lived for a short time in the middle of the 19th century, is discussed in connection with the period. In this context, subjects such as the palace ceremonies and traditions of the period, the effects of Ottoman modernization and the economic crisis on the life of the elite, the socio-cultural life, fashion, consumption habits and debts of the harem were handled through the life story of Behice Sultan. Among them, the irrational expenditures of the harem during the reign of Sultan Abdulmecid, which can be considered an important historical event, and their debts that endanger the treasury were emphasized. It has been examined whether Behice Sultan, who was a child in those years, was involved in the aforementioned events and what kind of consumption habits she had after that. All in all, it has been revealed whether she has adopted the milieu of her time or not both in this event and in her life.
