Tectono-stratigraphy and structural features of the southern part of the Sultan Dağları between Doğanhisar (Konya) and Gelendost (Isparta)

The study area, located in the southern part of the Sultan Dağları between Doğanhisar (Konya) and Gelendost (Isparta), consists of the structural units that amalgamated in the early-middle Paleocene due to the closure of the northern branch of the Neotethys and/or the Inner Tauride Ocean. These units are as follows; the parautochthonous Sultandağı Succession (early Cambrian-Late Cretaceous) of Geyikdağı Unit and the Anamas-Akseki Autochthonous (Jurassic-Cenomanian), and the allochthonous Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes (Mesozoic) of Bozkır Unit. These structural units are overlain by marine sediments of the late Paleocene-Lutetian aged Celeptaş Formation. The youngest cover units in the study area are the Neogene terrestrial/lacustrine deposits of the Yalvaç and Akşehir basins. It has been determined that the units outcropping in the study area underwent at least 6 deformation stages (D1-D6) due to the early Hercynian in the Middle Ordovician-Middle Devonian, early Cimmerian in the Early Triassic, late Cimmerian in the Late Triassic, early Alpine in the early-middle Paleocene, mid-Alpine in the late Eocene-Oligocene; and they were subjected to lower greenschist facies metamorphism three times (M1-M3). Depending on the deformation processes, Type-3 folds with NW-SE and NE-SW trending axis have been developed in the units belonging to the Sultandağı Succession. The tectonic transport direction data obtained from mesoscopic-scale kinematic indicators reveal that the units in the study area present two different directions as: from north-northwest to south-southeast and from south to north. Based on the stratigraphical, structural and paleontological data, it has been revealed that the formation age of the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes is late Maastrichtian, while their emplacement occurred in the early-middle Paleocene.
