Abstract (EN)
In the context of the origin of the Sumerians, the subject of this study whose name is the tree of life motif in Turkish and Sumerian culture is the identification of the tree of life motifs, symbols, and beliefs in Sumerian and Turkish culture. The study prepared within this framework comprises an introduction, four main chapters, and a conclusion. In addition to these chapters, there are also pictures of the tree of life motifs in the pictures chapter. In the introduction chapter of the study, the purpose, importance, scope of the thesis, and basic concepts related to the subject were emphasized. In the first chapter, information about the general characteristics and symbolic meanings of the tree of life motif was provided. The second chapter discussed how the Sumerians in Mesopotamia, where the belief in the tree of life originated, perceived the belief in trees and how they reflected it in their mythology. In the light of the archaeological finds that have survived till today, there are interpretations about the position of the tree of life embroidery in Sumerian art. In the third chapter, explanations were made about the tree of life and the tree cult of the Turkish people. It examined how the tree of life was used in Turkish epics. In addition, the use of the tree of life motif in artistic structures such as architecture was also mentioned. In the fourth chapter, the common points of the tree of life motif in Sumerian and Turkish culture are mentioned. In the conclusion, all of these obtained data have been compiled and presented.
