Investigation of carbon footprint reduction strategies in a carpet factory on the way to achieving sustainable development goals

In this thesis, the corporate carbon footprint (CCF) of a carpet factory operating in Gaziantep for the year 2024 was calculated, and reduction strategies were developed. Within the scope of the study, the organizational and operational boundaries of the company were defined, and greenhouse gas emissions were calculated under Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (emissions from purchased electricity), and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions). The calculations were based on the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard, IPCC methodologies, and internationally recognized emission factors (DEFRA, EPA); in addition, Türkiye-specific electricity emission factors, transmission-distribution losses, and well-to-tank (WTT) effects were included in the assessment. The findings revealed that raw material consumption and energy use had the largest share of total emissions. Based on the results, reduction strategies such as the use of recycled raw materials, logistics optimization, energy efficiency measures, and waste management were developed in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. As a result of the CCF calculations, it was determined that the highest emission sources were, respectively, the production of purchased products, electricity consumption, and waste generation.
