Abstract (EN)

Shear strength of discontinuities is an important component of geotechnical design development. The most important parameter that controls the strength is roughness. As a result of separation, the shear strength of discontinuities decreases. Rough surfaces should increase the shear strength. In some rock materials the roughness may increase while separation increases. In this study, the relation of shear strength of rocks, in which a rough surface is formed after separation such as granite and crystallized limestone, with roughness and decomposition are specified. While the roughness in granites are formed as a result of separation of feldspar minerals, stylolites formation is the reason for rough surface formation in crystallized limestones. Although, the rough surface formation in granites does not increase the shear strength, rough surface formation as a result of stylolites formation cause an increase in shear strength.
