A sociological research on the problems with Syrian refugees: Hatay case

Latest developments, civil wars and terrorist incidents we are facing today have resulted in an everlasting refugee problem around the world. The civil warin Syria created today's utmost immigration crisis and tragedy. Those who were forced to migrate to other countries just for the security of their life from Syria, where a violent civil war is going on, might be confronted with further problems there. In this context, this research focused on the problems between the refugees emigrated in Hatay due to internal conflicts inSyria and the local people in there, and on the conflict areas occurred by these problems.Within this scope, interviews were made with a total of 57 people, including both the refugees and the local people. As a result of this research, the leading problem between Syrians and Hatay people was found to be that Syrian refugees are low-paid with a high cost of living. In addition to these problems, cultural differences between these two sides and the provocative language used by the media exacerbated the situation, which resulted in them marginalizing each other. In our thesis, it was observed that the problems disturbing one side pose distinct problems also for the other side, and these problems interrelated with each other are resulting in a heap of trouble.
