Syrian refugee women, gender and health: The case of Istanbul, Umraniye

In this study, the processes of accessing health services of Syrian women asylum seekers who migrated to Turkey due to the Syrian war, together with their migration experiences and their position as women, are discussed within the framework of gender and feminist approach. The health conditions of Syrian women were evaluated holistically and their access to health services was discussed from a biopsychosocial perspective. For this reason, the effects of women's migration experiences on their lives are also included in the study and women's migration experiences are tried to be made visible. In the study, in-depth interviews were conducted with 21 unpaid domestic labor workers who came to Turkey from Syria and live in Istanbul Umraniye. My study points out that the forced migration processes of Syrian women have some positive and negative effects on their health processes, while the war and migration process are mostly challenging for women. It has been observed that migration experiences also have positive effects on women's health and daily lives.
