The qira'at phenomenon in the tafsir of Suyuti's ad-Duur al-Manthuur fi't- tafsir bi'l- me'sur

Al-Suyuti, who is a prominent scholar of his time, has an essential place in the Islamic history of thought thanks to his works and students he trained. The need for the study of Suyuti's understanding of the Qur'an and his qira'at methods in tafsir, who did not only attract attention at his time but also after his death, has led us to such a study. We think that the clarification of this aspect of Al-Suyuti, whom is said much about him, is of great importance. Some works of Al-Suyuti, who belong to Sunni-Ash'ari school in theological sects and Shafi'i madhab in practice, have been studied in the literature. Among them, ad-Duur al-Manthuur, which will be the focus of our investigation, has great significance among narration-based tafsirs. This tafsir, which has similar versions only in the first century of Islam and is the most voluminous source in this area, does not contain any explanation other than the narrations about the tafsir of the verses. While the Tabari's tafsir (b. 310/923), which is known to be the most famous and detailed work among the narrative-based tafsirs of Qur'an, contains an uncountable number of elements of dirayah tafsir; this book is composed of only a few lines and records which are not based on narrations. By discussing Al-Suyuti's understanding of the Qur'an and his qira'at methodology in ad-Duur al-Manthuur, a gap in this area, though partially, will be filled.
