Özet (EN)
Key Words: Wave propagation in soil, active isolation, passive isolation, finite element method, artificial bedrock Strong ground motion may occur in soil and structure which is constructed on the soil under dynamic loads. These vibrations can cause damage on the structures and people life quality and comfort. Therefore wave propagation in soil may be reduced by constructing artificial bedrock under the vibration source or structures. In this research detailed parametric studies carried out to investigate isolation techniques that could be used either to prevent the propagation of vibrations from a source (active isolation) or to prevent incoming waves in the soil to reach a structure or an area that should be protected (passive isolation). To reach our objectives the model is designed by using Finite Element Methods for numerical analysis. Half space model is derived from infinitive soil area to present real situation by determining horizontal boundary conditions in computer to obtain mathematical model related to seismic wave barriers. Also the behavior of foundations under dynamic loads is investigated in terms of number of key parameters such as frequency of wave source, geometrical shape of artificial bedrock, properties of artificial base rock, depth of embedment, shear modulus of soil, Poisson ratio and material damping ratio.
