The relationship between attachment to God and religious coping

Özet (EN)

This study, which investigates the relationship between God attachment styles and religious coping styles, was designed according to the quantitative design and relational screening model. The sample of the research consists of 564 students studying at various faculties of Çukurova University. Personal Information Form for sociodemographic variables; Turkish adaptation of Attachment to God Inventory (AGI) for God attachment styles; and Turkish adaptation of Religious Coping Scale ( RCOPE) for religious coping styles, were used in this study. In the analysis of data; t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and LSD that is a kind of multiple comparisons tests were used. According to the results obtained, a highly positive and significant relationship between secure attachment to God and positive religious coping; a low-level positive and significant relationship was found between secure attachment to God and negative religious coping. While there is a highly positive and significant relationship between anxious attachment to God and negative religious coping; a moderately positive and significant relationship was found between avoidant attachment to God and negative religious coping. There was no significant relationship between insecure (anxious and avoidant) attachment to God and positive religious coping although it was negative relationship. These results were interpreted within the framework of the literature. Key Words: Attachment, Attachment to God, Coping, Religious Coping
