Abstract (EN)
This research seeks to examine the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Tanzania. The research investigates how energy consumption and economic growth affect each other. The research is conducted with the use of a quantitative method, a range of aggregate and disaggregates time series data from gross domestic products and energy consumption. The research uses data from 1990 to 2018 to determine the outcomes of the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Tanzania. In the analysis phase, the research uses the following test Augmented Dicky Fuller test, Engle and Granger test, Error Correction Model, and Classical Granger causality test. The core findings in this research reveal that there is a causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Tanzania. The relation is based on the bidirectional causal relationship, which runs from energy consumption to economic growth and economic growth to energy consumption in Tanzania. The research perceives both short-run and long-run effect, which are significant. It concludes that both energy consumption and economic growth have a short-run positive impact on the economy and has enhanced long-run economic growth in Tanzania. The outcome of the research provides Tanzanian policymakers with a new dimensional approach to economic growth through an increase in energy consumption.
