Along with the Industrial Revolution, by the increase of communication and communication possibilities the globalization processstarted in trade. The surplus products that emerged as a result of the mass production of the factories were subject to inter continent altrade through ship sandrail ways. Increasing commercial activities also highlighted the port cities. New and large ports were built in such kind of cities. The rail way lines and the port cities, which provide the connection with the innerregions, were fed by the commercial commodity. As a matter of fact, during the 19th century, port cities developed and took on a cosmopolitan structure. In this thes is, the process of change in the 19th century of Golos, which is a port city of Tirhala Sanjak Province, is examined with its social and economic dimensions. In the light of the data obtained, information about the population, commercial structure, agricultural activities and physical development of the city are presented. Golos, a small settlement, had been started its modernization process from the mid- 19th century on wards. Golos has become a modern port city with a great development in a short time as a result of the zoning activities carriedout. The province of Tesalya, where thecity is located, is very productive and especially foragriculture, Golos Port has played an important role in the exportation of the obtained products. Golos even had a very important military role fort he Ottoman Empire. However, with the initiatives of Greece and witht he support of the European states, Golos, which was out of the Ottoman Empire power in 1881, maintained its strategic importance.
