Education structures in Izmir from Tanzimat to the Republic (centrum)

In this thesis, education architectures in İzmir handled from the beginning of the Ottoman Tanzimat Reform Era to the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. This thesis examined under six main headlines: "Prologue", "The Educational Activities In The Ottoman State From The Tanzimat To The Republic", "The Educational Activities In The İzmir City From The Tanzimat To The Republic", "The Architecture Of The Educational Buildings During The Tanzimat Period", "Catalogue", "Assessment" and "Conclusion". In "Prologue" section handled description, objective and limits of the subject; examined resources about the subject; shortly mentioned about history of the İzmir City. In the first part, the educational activities in the Tanzimat period and the architecture of the Tanzimat period educational buildings are mentioned. In "Catalogue" section, five education architectures in İzmir introduced with their all architectural and the other features. In "Assessment" section, architectural works are examined under the titles of typology, material, ornamentation, construction elements and facade elements. And this structures compared with the contemporary examples. The "Conclusion" section puts forward some thoughts depending upon the findings obtained through the research.
