Özet (EN)

The purpose of this thesis is to determine perceptions of history teacher about visual materials of 9th grade history textbooks. The research carried out experienced history teachers who teach history in the city center of Trabzon and on the coast of the province of Trabzon. The purposive sampling was used in the research to choose history teachers.A qualitative approach was used in the study and two data collection tools which are an open-ended questionnaire and a semi-structured interview to gather data. 49 history teachers participated open-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interviews carried out with 8 teachers. The purpose of using qualitative data collection tools is to illuminate research questions in a qualitative perspective. The frequency and percentages of the data acquired in the research was analyzed by showing in the tables. In the light of the data, it seems that the great majority of history teachers do not know how to use visual materials in history textbooks. Besides this, majority of history teachers think that visual materials in the 9th grade history textbooks do not explain texts properly. Furthermore, they also stated that some visual materials in 9. Grade history textbook are not clear and understandable.
