Abstract (EN)
Historical battlefields can be conveyed to the enthusiasts in a more understandable way through interactive maps by extracting spatial expressions from textual sources. Especially in the last two decades, the use of geographic information systems (GIS) in the field of history has been an important gain. The digitalization of the science of history has been achieved by processing the numerical data expressed in the texts describing historical events into databases. The use of GIS in the field of history; History buffs are provided with the opportunity to visualize historical spatial events and patterns between events in a realistic way. Due to the centennial of the first world war in Europe and America, studies on battlefields were examined and a literature review was conducted on the visualization of war geographies and interactive presentation techniques on the basis of geographic information systems. In this study, in the First Inonu Battles; By examining the records of the Western Front Command and the 24 Division Command, the positions of the units, archival documents and aerial photographs were examined, and the trenches were determined, and their positional definition was made. By using the ArcGIS Pro application, the temporal and spatial displacements of the units were presented on thematic maps.
