Application of historical landscape characterization approach to landscapes of antalya-seri̇k region

Landscape character is all the different and distinguishable features that distinguish a landscape from other landscapes. In this study, it is aimed to apply the TPK method in the analysis of natural and cultural landscapes and landscape character in Serik Region. Serik Region was chosen because of its rich natural and cultural structure with distinctive landscape features, rich in diversity in terms of urban and rural landscapes, and witnessing different civilisations since ancient times. Within the scope of the study in which the depth of history was examined in five different time intervals, firstly, historical landscape character areas specific to the region in terms of historical and geographical aspects, historical landscape character types were determined on the basis of dominant landscape pattern, historical landscape character areas and types were evaluated with time depth on the basis of the TPK approach, and finally, historical changes of each landscape character type were revealed over time depth. Five historical landscape character areas, namely Sillyon, Pednelissos, Aspendos, Harius Ancient City and Surroundings Historical Landscape Character Area and Serik Pear Spread Historical Landscape Character Area, have been defined as historical landscape character areas with a depth of time, separated by historical periods, events and values and containing geographically region-specific characters. Eight historical landscape character types have been identified as field systems, terrace systems, natural-semi-natural areas, water surfaces, settlement systems, industrial areas, transport, recreation and tourism with areas that stand out with similar land uses, historical past and land cover and especially areas with similar historical processes. This study, in which the TPK method is applied to Mediterranean landscapes in the case of Serik, is expected to contribute to the analysis of the historical depth in landscape research in Turkey and the time depth in landscape change by adding a historical perspective to local and regional landscapes and trying to produce information that will support and play an important role in landscape planning, design, conservation, repair and management processes in the discipline of landscape architecture.
