The role of agricultural extension project in agricultural and rural devolopment and it?s effectiveness: Example of Şanliurfa province

The purpose of this study is to search the role of agricultural advisors and their effectiveness in rural development. In Turkey the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs run the project which is titled ?Promote Agricultural Extension? Project (Tar-Gel) In this project Agricultural Engineers and Veterinarians are employed as Agricultural Advisor in selected villages.The study area was 80 villages in Şanlıurfa which are selected from center and 10 other districts. 11 villages have been selected randomly from each district. Face to face interview was applied to 80 Agricultural Advisors, 11 Village Headman and also selected farmers. From the selected villages out of 791 farms 39 was selected randomly. Data were collected from farmers, advisors and village headman are utilized.As a result, it has been found out that agricultural advisors seem to be helpful to solve production problems. However, they thought that project has been applied without careful thoughts and also physical conditions were not adequate.
