Erol Akyavas`s artıstıc adventure on the path of spırıtual journey ın Islamıc mystıcısm

Problematizing Erol Akyavaş?s plastic adventure in parallel with ?Seyr-ü Sülûk? headway in Islamic Mysticism constitutes the aim of this thesis. Through analyzing the mystic images of Erol Akyavaş?s oeuvre by means of forms in abstract art, the phases of the artists spiritual journey has been discussed. In our opinion, Erol Akyavaş made use of these mystic symbols in his work not for their appearances but rather for the meanings borne by these symbols and through his work he has been trying to understand the unseen beyond the appearing. If it is suggested, that Islamic art and its forms of expression are crucial in Akyavaş?s ?mystic? paintings or if the artist employed Islamic forms regarding to his internalization of mystic thought in his personal perspective, we tried to understand to what degree these forms are derived from the tradition and how they are overlapping with the plastic concerns of Akyavaş. Whether this way of thinking is ?Islamic? and the degree of convergence with the Islamic forms of expression are aimed to be the axis of this thesis.
