Abstract (EN)
While many countries achieved peace in 1918, when World War I ended, the Ottoman geography was subjected to the occupation of the imperialist states. Resisting against occupations, the Turkish nation declared the Sevres Treaty invalid and signed the Treaty of Lausanne, which was a more honorable treaty. With the end of the War of Independence, the dispatch and settlement of Greeks from Anatolia to Greece became an important problem. The fact that both states do not want to deal with minority problems any longer has brought the population exchange, which has already taken place to a large extent, on the agenda. Through reconciliation that took place at the beginning of the Lausanne negotiations with the Muslims living in Greece Orthodox Greeks living in Turkey it has decided to undergo exchanges. Agreed in 1923 to Greek-Turkish population exchange is not only a historic event which concerns Greece and Turkey. When we look at the exchange in terms of its causes and consequences, it is seen that many societies are deeply affected by its various aspects. One of the societies affected by the exchange is Roma. Roma living in Greece were included in the exchange due to their Muslim identity. In our study, the liquidation requests of the Roma included in the population exchange and the archive documents regarding the dispatch and settlement of the Roma were taken as basis. In the liquidation requests, the Roma were expressed with the word "Kıpti" used by the Ottoman central and local bureaucracy. Considering the historical geography, we thought that the word Roma would be more appropriate to describe this group subjected to exchange, and we used the term Roman instead of Coptic in our study. Our study consists of three parts. In the first part of our thesis; We tried to give information about the developments before the 1923 Turkish-Greek Population Exchange, the exchange process, the meanings of the words Roma, Gypsy, Coptic, the inclusion process of the Roma and the factors affecting this process. In the second part of our thesis; Based on the Liquidation Claims of the Roma included in the exchange, we tried to make a series of determinations regarding their social and economic conditions. By examining 271 requests for liquidation of Roma people who were subjected to exchange, the cities and towns where Roma came from, their real estate status / amount, livelihoods and occupations, names, income status of the households, etc. We tried to interpret the information by creating tables on the subjects. In the third part; We tried to analyze the resettlement situation of Roma who were subjected to exchange by examining the settlement documents, TBMM minutes and basic reference sources. We tried to deal with the socio-economic problems of the Roma in the regions where they are resettled, their demands for relocation, their demands for shops and land within their professions, their desire to be settled according to their professions, the problem of escaping, internal migration and legal regulations regarding the issues. We examined in the light of the documents of the Roma population, their profession, their life in Greece, in line with our determination about the next case having been brought to Turkey, which has been shaped in the history of Turkey, we also aim to contribute to the Roman history.
