Youth and entertainment in the province: A review on university students' understanding of entertainment

When we focus on the meaning of the province and the center in the historical process, the importance of these concepts in terms of political and social structure emerges. These concepts, which seem to be against each other, but embrace each other, constitute one of the important foundations of the social field. The youth category, which is one of the categories in the province, besides being an age category, has also been one of the important determinants of the political and social field. The university, as the temporal and spatial interval in which the youth coincides in terms of education, turns into an appealing area due to the freedom and scientific connotations it contains. The relative autonomy provided by university education provides young people with extracurricular, in other words, free time. Although young people studying at provincial universities benefit from the autonomy opportunities provided by higher education, they are restricted in different ways in the university conditions determined by the province based on their own dynamics. These limitations become visible when the opportunities and transformation capacity of the youth meet with the social structure of the province. The temporal divisions determined by the capitalist production relations show themselves as class time and extracurricular time in the field of education. Considering the conditions that determine the preferability of the province universities, it is seen that the way students spend their free time, which is their extracurricular time, is affected by these conditions. The scientific, cultural and social conditions of the province city and the province university are also determinative in spending leisure time.
