Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the 5th grade English language teachers? beliefs on coursebook ?Time for English 5? and to find out to what extent the coursebook presents the principles of constructivism. To fulfill this aim, a teacher questionnaire was adopted as a data collection instrument in this descriptive study. 140 English language teachers working in different state primary schools in Gaziantep participated in the study. Quantitative data was analyzed by calculating the frequencies and percentages of the responses given to the questionnaire.The data revealed that the coursebook did not enable the teachers and learners to teach and learn in constructivist environment. Teachers were not satisfied with the number of vocabulary items, the presentation of geographical features, the language level in first units of the coursebook. Moreover, they needed supporting materials and better guidance from teacher?s book. In the light of findings recommendations were made for the solution of the problems to the relevant parties.Key Words: Constructivism, Curriculum, Coursebook, Young Learners.
