An examination of Tabriz gardens in Iranian garden art

This study was carried out in order to determine the place of historical gardens in Tabriz City within Iranian garden art. In the study, information was provided on historical gardens of Tabriz city which have not reached the present day such as `Saheb Abad? Garden, `North? Garden, `Sefa? Gerdan, `Amir Kabir? Garden, and `Saheb Divan? Garden and four historical maps belonging to the Kaçar Period of Tabriz city were used. In the thesis study, as a method, factors influencing the design of `Hand Lake? Garden were researched and these factors were grouped under three main headings. These are; Physical, Biological and Cultural Factors. As a result of an examination of these factors, in Tabriz city which has different microclimatic factors, it was determined what kinds of similarities exist relating Iranian garden Art. Changes made to the `Hand Lake? gardens from past to present were examined and evaluated functionally and aesthetically and present situation as well as the actual use was specified. New functional areas of `Hand Lake? gardens which emerged after the garden was given a park identity in the recent years and by the addition of new functional uses were introduced with new recreational facilities.
