The perception of women in tedbir al-manzil texts

This thesis aims to examine the perception of women in the texts of tedbir al-menzil in the Islamic intellectual tradition. Tedbir al-menzil perents a conceptual framerwork that ethical and philosophical principles fort he management of the individual, family and society. The idea of household managentmen, which was shaped through the concep of oikonomia in antiquity, was transformed in the Islamic world under the name of Tedbir al-menzil and found its place in philosophical and moral text. This study analyzes the social role of women, their position in the family their moral duties in the text of Tedbir al menzil written in different periods. Within the scope of the study, the philosophical origins of tedbir al menzil are evaluated in the context of the interaction between ancitent and Islamic thought, and comparative analyses are made especially with Xenophon's Oikonomikos and Aristotle's Politics. The study examines how classical Islamic philosophers shaped the perception of women and how this perception changed in the historical process. In particular, the comments made by Islamic philosophers on housekeeping and the role of women are related to the religious and cultural factors that determine the palce of women in society. As a methodology, the classical texts of interest are analyzed through content analysis and the philosophers views on womwn are categorized and elaborated. In addition, comparisons were made between Works written in different periods tos how the historical evolution of these views. The study reveals how the role of women in domectic management is defined in the moral and social context and how this concept has undergone a transformation in Islamic thought. As a result, in Islamic thougt, the women in the context of tedbiral menzil was not an elemen of domestic order but also a part of the moral structure of society. In this context, women have an important position not only within the family but also in term of the sustainabilty of the social structure.
