The investigation of "Tehzîb-i Ahlâk ve Islâh-ı Nefs" in terms of values education

Written in order to be taught in schools, Tehzîb-i Ahlâk ve Islâh-ı Nefs (TAVIN) which is the second volume of the Talîm-i Kırâat, is a work that aims to provide individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills throughout their life rather than simply conveying information, and does not see education as detached from life. The purpose of writing the relevant work and the ultimate goal of values education are in the same direction. Since the work in question is in line with the ultimate goal of values education, the relevant work has been examined in the context of values education. Since the research is based on texts, document analysis method, one of the qualitative research approaches was used. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the data. This study consists of five parts. In the first part; the problem situation of the study, problem statement, sub-problems, purpose, importance, assumptions, limitations and definitions are covered. In the second part; in the conceptual framework of the study, after explaining the concept of value and values, the properties of values, functions, values education, studies on values education and the subject of values included in the Turkish Language Teaching Program (TÜDÖP) of the Ministry of National Education (MEB) were discussed. Later, the life and works of Arakel Efendi and the subject of bookings after the Tanzimat were discussed. In the third part; the aim was to determine the material and tools, and to collect and analyze the data. In the next section, the findings and interpretations, 16 basic values as justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, benevolence, scientificity, prayer, aesthetics, repartee, freedom and health were determined. Each detected value was examined separately. In the fifth part; the study was concluded with discussion, results and recommendations. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the work has a rich content in terms of value transfer and values education. However, it has been determined that the interdisciplinary method and an abstract moral value by integrating and concretizing the content with science subjects makes the value tried to be adopted easier to understand. In addition, it was observed that the values determined in the study were compatible with the 10 basic values included in the MoNE's TÜDÖP published in 2019 and other values not included in the program.
