Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, China, as an economic power between East and West, has caused changes in the globalization of our age and the positioning of global playmakers with the One Belt One Road project announced by the president Xi Jinping in 2013. In essence, the project aims to alleviate the negative aspects of traditional globalization by deepening win-win cooperation in the age of globalization. When viewed from this aspect, the foundations of the project are based on the principle of creating a global integration through inclusion, balance and compatibility mechanisms. On the other hand, while the concept of "Belt" mentioned in the project refers to "Highway Routes" including highways, railways, oil and natural gas pipelines and infrastructure works; The concept of "Road" refers to "Seaways". Accordingly, the project acts as a corridor where commercial and cultural exchange between East and West is provided in line with various infrastructure activity chains and investments. In other words, the Belt Road project contributes not only to the extended commercial route of the Eurasian continent, but also to its mutual integration in Europe, Asia and other civilizations. In the direction of this background, the growth of China as an economic actor in the Belt Road project axis and the partnership relation with the EU leads to significant changes in international relations. This situation is especially remarkable in the Mediterranean region. In other words, China, which exists economically in the Eastern Mediterranean countries, causes changes in regional competition. Likewise, the participation of regional states in big infrastructure projects is increasing day by day and this situation has a significant effect on strategic positions and trade routes. This study focuses on the question of how it relates to the geopolitical developments in the region and seeking answers to this question, while researching the interests and activities of the Eastern Mediterranean through the Belt Road project, which is described as China's major foreign policy strategy. While researching the details of the cooperation framework established especially with the EU countries, it examines the possible effects of the infrastructure activities arising from this cooperation on global politics in general and on the Eastern Mediterranean in particular.
