Cytogenetic anomalies in recurrent miscarriage

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the cytogenetic abnormalities in patients with recurrent pregnancy loss who applied to Medical Genetic Diagnosis Center between January 2016 and December 2017 in Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital. Materials and Methods: A total of 606 patients, 303 female and 303 male, who had two or more pregnancy loss, participated. Molar and ectopic pregnancies were not included. The samples were sequentially processed according to routine cytogenetic study principles. Metaphases were transferred to computerized imaging system by GTG banding method and 20 metaphases were examined for each patient and karyotypes were created. In this way, chromosomes were evaluated as numerical and structural. Findings: Karyotype analysis was performed in 606 patients with TGK by GTG banding method. It has been observed that there is one Tizomi X, one Klinefelter Syndrome, three 46, XX reciprocal translocation, three 46, XY reciprocal translocation, one 45, XX reciprocal translocation, and no reproductive one. In karyotype analysis of 596 patients no numerical or structural anomalies were observed. Conclusions: TGK is a common condition in couples trying to conceive. Multifactorial causes are involved in etiology. Despite extensive research, however, there is no definite reason to close to 50% of the cases. Possible factors of RPL include genetic causes, parent structural chromosomal disorders and chromosomal anomalies of pregnancy product. Cytogenetic evaluation is very important in diagnosis. In published data, we found that reciprocal translocation was seen more frequently in robertsonian translocations. As a result, our study supports the literature in the data obtained.
