Abstract (EN)

INTRODUCTION: Recurrent pregnancy loss is a traumatic process that causes both emotional and physical harm to the parents. Recurrent pregnancy loss is generally defined as fetal loss with birth weight less than 20 weeks or less than 500 grams, three successive occurrences and over. The prevelance of recurrent pregnancy loss is approximately 1% in the fertile pairs. Because the complete blood count test is accessible and inexpensive in terms of first step health services, it can be assumed that the determination of parameters associated with recurrent pregnancy loss may be a guide before the detailed examinations to be performed. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the difference between complete blood count parameters of the individuals with recurrent pregnancy loss and the women who have at least one live birth and have never been aborted before or at most one. STUDY DESIGN: This study was planned as a case-control study. Research data were obtained retrospectively from hospital records. The case group consisted of 50 patients who applied to Atatürk University Medical Faculty Medical Genetic Polyclinic between 2010-2016 due to recurrent pregnancy losses. In the control group, 60 women who have at least one live birth and have never been aborted before or at most one. RESULTS: The average age of the participants was 29,08 ± 5,5 years. When the retrospective hemograms of the women with recurrent pregnancy losses were examined, it was seen that the MPV and RDW values and plateletcrit calculations were significantly higher than the healthy control group (p <0,05). There was no significant difference between the case and control groups in terms of HB, HCT, PLT, PDW, RBC, MCV, MCH parameters (p> 0.05). CONCLUSION: Considering previous studies in the literature, high MPV and RDW values, which are related to many diseases, can be considered as an important marker in recurrent pregnancy loss. Of course, in order to clarify the prevalence of recurrent pregnancy losses of these parameters, our findings should be supported by prospective studies involving a larger number of patients.
