The effect of educational games on the acquisition of respect value with inculcation approach

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of educational games on the acquisition of the value of respect using the Inculcation approach. In this direction, the study was designed with a mixed method design and qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques were used together. For quantitative data, a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was applied. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews to obtain in-depth information about the participants' experiences; thus, quantitative research findings were supported by qualitative data. The study group consisted of a total of 30 fourth grade students (15 experimental and 15 control) from two different public primary schools in Batman province. During the data collection process, activity plans prepared in line with the Inculcation approach were applied to the experimental group for 8 weeks and education was carried out to gain the value of respect. In the control group, the process was continued by adhering to the existing program. While dependent and independent sample t-test was used to analyze the quantitative data collected, content analysis method was used for qualitative data. When the research findings were analyzed, no significant difference was found between the pre-test results of the experimental and control groups in terms of their tendency to be respectful, while a significant difference was found in the post-test results. Qualitative findings revealed that the experimental group was positively affected by the value acquisition process. In this context, although partial differences were observed with the results of similar studies, consistency was observed to a great extent. As a result, it was determined that the use of the Inculcation approach and educational games had a significant effect on students' acquisition of the value of respect and increased their respect tendencies. In addition, it was revealed that students evaluated this process as a positive experience. Considering the results of the study, some Inculcations were presented.
