With the Tanzimat (Reorganisation) Period a new era began for the Ottoman Empire and it was aimed to restore the existing institutions. Several arrangements were made in order to collect taxes, which were the most important sources of income, effectively and fairly. Consequently in order to fetter the lands, animals, real estates and the incomes of the public they were written in the Temettuat notebooks and this Temettuat method was adopted.The main bibliography of this research consists of Sorgun Temettuat Notebooks of the Empire?s Finance Ministry in the Ottoman Archives of Prime Ministry. Sorgun County was examined in County?s centrum and house by house terms. With these records local residents? social and economic situation and the dominant social situation of the county were determined. With these data inductive reasoning was used and conclusion was reached.In the Temettuat Notebooks of the year 1844 The centrum of Sorgun and 85 villages were included.
