Abstract (EN)
The research that was conducted with 68 child patients treated with clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) who were followed up at a private hospital in the province of Istanbul to determine the frequency of patients with urinary tract infections and the variables that influence the formation of infection is a descriptive and relation-seeking study conducted with retrospective methods. The data were obtained by the researcher from the patient files of the 25-item questionnaire prepared according to the literature and from the interviews with mothers who applied the CIC. For the data analyses R V.2.15.3 program (R Core Team, 2013) was used. Mann-Whitney U test was used in the quantitative data comparison of the two-group comparison of the variables that do not show normal distribution in addition to using descriptive statistical methods (mean, standard deviation, median, frequency, rate, minimum, maximum) in the data analysis. In the comparison of qualitative data, Pearson's chi-squared test, Fisher's exact test, Fisher-Freeman-Halton exact test, and McNemar's test were used. Statistical significance was set at p< 0.01 and p < 0.05. The domain of this research was formed with 300 patients with SB who were assessed via urodynamics between the years of 2012-2014. The number of samples was calculated as 68 children treated with CIC with 95% confidence level and 10% sampling error. The average age of the children in the study group was ± S.S. 64.78 ± 56.91 months. The research group 52.9% of the study group was male and 47.1% of that was female. The incidince of urinary tract infection in child patients was found 36.8% before CIC treatment while that was found 64.7% after CIC treatment (application). The incidence of urinary tract infection after CIC treatment in child patients was found to show significance with age, dipaer use, and urinary incontinence and constipation (p< 0.05). It was determined that the incidence of urinary tract infection after CIC application did not show significant relationship with the daily number of CIC applications, the prophylactic use of antibiotics, the perineum and hand cleaning method, and the sociodemographic characteristics of people appying CIC (p> 0.05).
