Organizational commitment levels of shipyard employees: An application in Tuzla Shipyard area

In today's business world trained human factor is increasingly gained more value like technological developments and globalization efforts, the significance of the concept of organizational commitment became increasingly one of the rising issues. Occupational health and safety has long been accepted in the world, but in our country has been occurring in the last few years as a result of big accidents at work that managed draw public attention. The aim of our study is to determine demographic characteristics of shipyard workers, their ideas about occupational health and safety and the relationship between organizational commitment. Therefore, a survey application was made which consists demographical questions, questions about occupational health and safety and organizational commitment questionary to 120 employees who is working for Yonca-Onuk Shipyard which is locating in Tuzla Shipyards Region. Collected surveys were transferred to the computer environment with the help of computer program SPSS 21.0 for Windows and their reviews were completed. As a result of the examination, it was found a meaningful positive relationship between organizational commitment and occupational health and safety. It could not be detected any differences between blue-collar workers and white-collar workers in thoughts about occupational health and safety, ın the organizational commitment questionary, in the affective and normative commitment dimension blue-collar workers in favor of the conclusion, in the continuance commitment dimension white-collar workers in favor of the conclusion has been reached. Except from these; Any meaningful relationship could not be determined between organizational commitment and employees gender, marital status, profession selection and attitudes and behaviors of supervisors; but meaningful relationships were detected between sub-dimensions of organizational commitment and tenure in the same company, to take responsibility in case of emergency, opinions about social activities, and the fees.
