The evaluation of the effectiveness of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing-EMDR method in individuals with tinnitus

The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of Eye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing-EMDR method on tinnitus. The research is planned as an observational study. Participants were not randomly selected. Our sample was selected for the purpose of the research, depending on the conditions and conditions. The study group of the study was attended by individuals who were considered to have a randomly selected tinnitus complaint who applied to Ankara Yenimahalle Training and Research Hospital in Ankara. The samples of the research were determined as 36 participants selected through purposeful sampling. 12 of 36 participants included in the study were assigned to EMDR and Masking Group, 12 of which were Group 1, Masking and EMDR Group, 12 of which were Group 2, and EMDR and Masking Group, 12 of which were not applied. The dependent variable of the study is the level of tinnitus of the participants and the independent variable is EMDR and Masking method. The dependent variable data of the study were collected with the Visuel Analogue Scale scale and Tinnitus Disability Questionnaire (TEA). EMDR and Masking Method, which are used as independent variables in the study, were carried out for two months in eight sessions. The control variables of the study were taken under control so as not to affect the dependent variables of the study. In the research, it was found that the tinnitus scores of the 1st and 2nd group patients who applied EMDR Therapy differed statistically significantly in the pre-test post-test comparison, and the tinnitus scores of the 1st and 2nd group patients who were applied masking did not differ statistically significantly in the pre-test post-test comparison. It was found that the EMDR method was effective on the level of tinnitus of the participants and the Masking Method was not effective.
