The aim of this study is; to determine the frequency of celiac disease (GDE) and Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) and to emphasize the importance of the screening tests of these illnessess in Endocrinology and Metabolism Policlinic in Gaziantep University Medical Faculty of Department of Pediatrics.Between 1-30 January 2008 children with type 1 DM whom were succeeding since 2003 are researched retrospectively. Sex, age, weigth, the percentile of weight, height, the percentile of height, the SDS values of height and weight, body mass indexes, the date and the age at the diagnosis of type 1 DM, the clinical findings in the first application, and HbA1c, fT4, fT3, TSH, antithyroid peroxidase (ATPO), antithyroglobuline (ATGB) and antitissue transglutaminase (ATTG) antibody levels are reported.134 patients are studied,74 (55.2%) boys, 60 (44.8%) girls. The median diabetes diagnosis age is 8.1±4 years. The diagnosis are mostly placed in autumn and winter, and clinically we indicated that 54.4% of the patients are coming with hyperglicemi and 45.6% of them with ketoacidosis. And we determined that 6 of the patients (4.4%) are ATGB, 11 of them (8.2%) are ATPO, 15 of them (11.2%) are ATTG and 2 of them are ATGB, ATPO and ATTG serologically positive. These serologically antibody positive patients are accepted Hashimoto thyroiditis and/or celiac disease without taken biopsy. The Hashimoto patients were euthyroid so that given no treatment. The patients with celiac disease were given diet without gluten.The early diagnosis of HT and GDE in diabetic children, provides both better metabolic regulation in diabetes mellitus and early diagnosis of seconder malignities related to these autoimmune diseases.Key Words: Type 1 diabetes mellitus, Hashimoto thyroiditis, Celiac disease, Antithyroid peroxidase, Antitissue transglutaminase.
