Comparison of serum C-peptide level and microvascular and macrovascular complications in Type 2 Diabetes mellitus patients

Abstract (EN)

level and microvascular and macrovascular complications of diabetes in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients between the patient group with low serum c-peptide level and the group with normal/high serum c-peptide level. Materials and methods: 60 patients were included in our study. Inclusion criteria: Having Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), being over 18 years of age, not pregnant, and not having latent autoimmune diabetes in adults. An application was made to the Internal Medicine Endocrinology and Metabolism Polyclinic of Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Balcalı Hospital between 18.10.2023 and 15.12.2023 among the applications that were not included, and demographic data, height, weight and mass index were recorded after the individual who met them was specified with the informed consent formula. For our study, serum C-peptide, HbA1C, glucose, total solubility, low solubility (LDL), high solubility (HDL), triglyceride, complete blood count, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (e-GFR). , aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), medium, media, total protein, albumin and spot protein/creatinine were generally checked. Patients were evaluated for the presence of neuropathy, atherosclerotic heart disease (ASCH) and retinopathy. Echocardiography (ECHO) was performed on people with atherosclerotic heart disease. Electromyography (EMG) was requested for those with neuropathy. Blood pressure values of the patients were taken at the time of admission. In all tests, p<0.05 was considered significant while maintaining conditions. Results: Of the 60 patients included in the study, 27 (45%) were male and 33 (55%) were female. The age of the patients was 61.1 years. According to the comparative analysis between the two groups with low and normal/high serum c-peptide levels, a significant difference was observed in terms of serum ALT, triglyceride and white blood cell counts stated in parentheses (p=0.006; p=0.045; p=0.019, respectively). Conclusion: In our study, the triglyceride level of the group with normal c-peptide was higher than the group with low c-peptide, and a significant difference was observed in the group with normal c-peptide levels, keeping the triglyceride level degrees (p = 0.006). We are considering planning prospective and randomized controlled epidemics with a wider patient distribution to determine the relationship between C-peptide level and micro and macrovascular distribution.
