The Technical and artistic characteristics of the embroderies in Tire museum and new design proposals

ABSTRACT Traditional handcrafts belong to a mode of production in which, everything that is essential to the daily life of human beings are produced solely by hand and the essential nature of this mode of production is its anonimity. So, in general, handcrafts define the history of a society and also represent its economical and social structure, believes and aesthetic values. The art of embroidery covers a huge area of activity in anonimus cultural values. The history of embroidery is as old as the history of weaving it self, there has always been a strong embroidery tradition in Anatolia, one of the oldest weaving centers of the world. In ancient Anatolia and especially during Byzantine period, the art of embroidery had been most developed. The research shows that in the East, among the Turkic tribes it was also common in the shape of embroidered objects and clothing. Anatolia-Turkish style of embroidery is a result or a synthesis between Byzantic and Turkic embroidery traditions. In this way, Turkish art of embroidery took on a new style and continued developing. From 16. century onwards, embroideries of the palace courts reached the peak of their development in terms of aesthetics and production techniques. Embroidery craft of the common people was also influenced by these. In our time, it is the embroidered textiles that take up much of the space in the ethnography sections of our museums. These embroidery samples are exceptionally important in terms of understanding how a slice of our cultural history was transfered to our time. It is upmost importance that these examples reach us in good shape. Museums bear responsibility in this respect. Tire Museum deserves much research and documentation in terms of its rich collection of embroideried textiles.
