A RESEARCH OF THE SELF-ESTEEM LEVELS OF SPORTING AND NON-SPORTING SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ERBAA DISTRICT OF TOKAT PROVINCE Amasya University Institute of Health Sciences Department of Physical Education and Sports / Master's Degree / June / 2019 Advisor: Dr. Lecturer İlknur YAZICILAR ÖZÇELİK The aim of this study is to investigate the self-esteem levels of secondary school students in terms of the variables of doing sports or not (licensed or free time activity) gender, age and sport level. Method: The study included 1045 (Nfemale: 541, Nmale: 504) students from secondary schools in Erbaa district of Tokat province in 2018-19 academic year. In order to obtain the research data, Personal data form and Coopersmıth Self-Esteem Inventory adapted to Turkish by Pişkin (1996) were used. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, t-test in independent groups, one-way analysis of variance and LSD Post Hoc Tests were used. According to the results of the study, a statistically significant difference was found between the variables of doind licensed (in school teams), unlicensed (to spend leisure time)sports and "general self-esteem, social self-esteem and academic self-esteem" levels; between gender and "general self-esteem and social self-esteem levels"; between age and "social self-esteem, home-family self-esteem and academic self-esteem"; between the fact of doing sport or not generally and "the levels of general self-esteem and academic self-esteem"; between the level of sporting and "general self-esteem, social self-esteem and academic self-esteem levels". (p<0,05). On the other hand, there is no statistically significant difference between the variables of doing licensed (in school teams), and unlicensed(to spend leisure time) sports and "home-family self esteem"; between gender and "home-family self-esteem and level of academic self-esteem", between age and "general level of self-esteem", between the fact of doing sport or not generally and "social self-esteem and home-family self-esteem" and between the level of sporting level and "home-family self-esteem". (p>0,05). As a result, based on the findings of the study, it can be said that doing licensed sports and doing sports to spend leisure time, gender, taking part in team sports branches and weekly exercise frequency (two days or more) have an effect on increasing self-esteem levels of students.
