Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is aimed to shed a light on the dark side of your leadership which seems to be quite underestimated. In the extant literature, destructive and toxic leadership styles are underlined regarding to the dark side of the leadership. Destructive leadership refers to narrow-minded, hard, even emotionless and incompetent managerial behaviors. Toxic leadership, one step further, is deliberately defined by behaviors that neglect, crush, or even exploit its subordinates. In this study the relationship between the dark side of the leadership -in terms destructive and toxic leadership- and employee performance is examined. Data gathered from 229 employees by random sampling from the Istanbul and Kocaeli regions are subjected to statistical analysis. Interestingly, findings do not provide any empirical evidence in support of the relationships between destructive and toxic leadership styles and employee performance. One should consider the cultural context, the characteristics of the X generation which constitutes a large part of the sample, and the composition of the sample in interpreting these results which are contrary to the existing studies.
