Documentation of instructions in Topkapı Palace and proposals for conservation

There are many inscriptions with different content in Topkapı Palace, which was the official residence and administrative center of the Ottoman state. The most authentic datas about the construction and repair activities that took place in the buildings in the palace are the inscriptions on the buildings. In addition, foundation and religious inscriptions reflect the literary and socio-cultural development of that period. The studies carried out within the scope of this thesis are evaluated under three main headings: In the first chapter, there is information about the history and architectural features of Topkapı Palace and 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th courtyards, Harem and Hasbahçe. In the second part, starting with the data of all the inscriptions in the four courtyards of the palace, each courtyard's own inscription program is conveyed. The history of the buildings in the courtyards is briefly mentioned and information about the inscriptions is given together with their photographs. In the third chapter, the materials used in the inscriptions, the deteriorations seen are explained with examples and conservation suggestions are made.In the appendices, inscription slips designed by me in the format of inventory slips and containing information from many aspects of 424 inscriptions are included in A3 size. In the appendices, there are inscription tables in A3 size, designed in the format of an inventory table and containing information from many aspects of 424 inscriptions. This thesis study aims to contribute to the documentation of the inscriptions in Topkapı Palace and to maintain their originality by developing conservation proposals.
