Özet (EN)

ABSTRACTIn this study, the nupital rites of the sedentary Yoruks of Bergama Kozak plateau and `Dumbekcilik? ?the model of musicianship and performance carried out by professional Rom women singers hired for the musical stages of these rituals- are examined. The services of these singers limited to the stages of the ritual are examined within the context of gender and the mentioned stages intended exclusively for the female guests are detailed. The headlines of the first three section in this four-part study are respectively: `Gender and Music?, `Dumbekcilik as a Gender-Based Model of Professional Musicianship? and `The Cultural Roles of Dümbekcies within the Nupital Rites: A Case Study on the Kozak Region Weddings?. The forth and last section called `Style and Repertoire in Dumbekcilik: Exampler of Harmandali Zeybek? aims to determine the stylistic attributes related to the performance of the Dümbekcies together with the differences emerged between the male and female gender roles according to the musical behavior. To achieve this `Harmandali Zeybek? -one of the zeybek dances which members of both sexes can participate- is examined.
