Abstract (EN)
Today, contemporary graphic design is caught in a rapid digitalization flow. Although this fast and dizzying flow provides many conveniences in addition to the fears it creates for designers, it's clear that it needs to be questioned and controlled. Contemporary designers, who take part in this inquiry, draw attention to a need for futureoriented contemporary graphic design not to break its bonds with the past, in order to set a barrier to the possible harms and losses that this rapid flow may cause, without ignoring the benefits of digitization. Letterpress is seen as one of the most important tools in establishing connection with the past. The trend towards letterpress in the field of graphic design draws attention especially in the field of design education. In this thesis, suggestions are presented on the inclusion of letterpress in contemporary graphic design education and the establishment stages of a letterpress workshop within a university. In the first section of this thesis, the changes experienced by letterpress until the period it lost its power in commercial printing are summarized. In the second section, the effects of the Information Technology Revolution on the fields of graphic design and letterpress are explained. In the third section, information is given about important workshops in the field of letterpress from Turkey and the world. In the fourth and last section, details about the letterpress workshop created at the Department of Graphic Design of Trakya University are explained.
