Effect of Aronia melanocarpa supplement on BDNF irisin and preptin levels in treadmill exercise rats

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of treadmill exercises applied and aronia melanocarpa supplementation administered by gavage on brain-derived neurotrophic factor, irisin and preptin levels. For this purpose, a total of 32 female rats, 4-6 weeks old, weighing 200-300 g, were included in the study. The study groups were determined as the control group (n:8), where no application was made and only routine nutrition was applied, and the group that did treadmill exercise at an average speed of 45 cm/sec for 30 minutes three days a week for six weeks (n:8). The supplement group (n:8) given a single dose of 400mg/kg/day Aronia Melanocarpa extract by oral gavage three days a week, was divided into four groups as the supplement+exercise group (n:8) in which both supplementation and nutritional practices were applied. At the end of the experimental study, the rats were decapitated and blood samples were taken. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor, irisin and preptin analyzes in blood samples were studied by ELISA method. SPSS 22.0 package program was used in the analysis of the data obtained in the research. Mann Whitney U test was used in the analysis of the comparisons between groups. Paired Samples t-test was used in the pre-test and post-test evaluation of the weights of the animals. In the analysis of the obtained data; BDNF, preptin and irisin values were found to be significant in favor of the control groups and other groups, in favor of the supplementation group, exercise group and supplement+exercise groups (p<0.05). As a result, we can say that treadmill treadmill exercises and aronia supplementation have positive effects on the change of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and the development of the levels of hormones that are effective in energy metabolism such as preptin and irisin.
