Abstract (EN)
Objective: Genetic and acquired hemostasis disorders cause predisposition to thrombosis. Factor V Leiden (FVL), prothrombin gene mutation (PG20210A), Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T and 1298A mutations can be examined with PCR method in patients with suspected genetic predisposition for thrombophilia. The aim of this study is to evaluate the demographic and clinical features of the patients who underwent thrombophilia tests.Material and Method: 527 patients in total were included in the study with suspected genetic thrombosis and required genetic mutation test with PCR method between September 1998 and January 2009 in Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine. Demographic characteristics, areas of thrombosis, administered anticoagulant or antiaggregant treatment and the efficiency of treatment, risk factors for thrombosis and genetic mutations of the patients were retrospectively examined. Results: of 527 patients 61.7% were women, mean age was 42 ± 14,61, there was venous thrombosis in 49.5%, arterial thrombosis in 25.2%, recurrent abortus in 19.2% and 6.1% were screened because of their family history. Significant difference was found in the mean age among the patients with arterial and venous thrombosis (p= 0,002), in the age among the patients with arterial thrombosis and recurrent abortus (p= 0,001) and in the mean age of the patients with arterial thrombosis and who were screened for their family history (p = 0,031). Significant differences were determined among the patients with arterial thrombosis, venous thrombosis, family history and recurrent abortus and among FVL heterozygote, FVL homozygote, PG2010 heterozygote, MTHFR C677 heterozygote mutations (p = 0, 001, p= 0, 012, p= 0, 013, p = 0, 002 respectively). Of 248 contacted patients; immobility, surgical or traumatic history were facilitator factors before thrombosis in 15.3% and of 250 contacted patients there was a single disease in 55.2%.Conclusion: Requiring the thrombosis tests, patients should be evaluated in detail according to their diagnosis and taking their arterial and venous thrombosis into consideration, requests should be done in accordance with the guides. In our retrospective study, no rationality among the polyclinics was seen in the requests for thrombosis tests
