Abstract (EN)

Aim: Cardiovascular diseases are the most important causes of morbidity and mortalityamong the world. Recent studies have been reported that inflammatory componentsmay contribute to every stage of atherosclerosis such as initiating, progression andcompleting. Based on this knowledge, some of inflammatory markers have beensearched as potential new risk factors for coronary heart diseases and myocardialinfarction. Many cytokines such as tumor necrosis-beta was investigated as a newpotential risk factor for myocardial infarction. In this study, we aim to evaluate thetumor necrosis factor-beta A329G gene polymorphism in patients admitted toemergency department with chest pain complaint and diagnosed acute myocardialinfarction.Material and Method: 90 patients (78 men, 12 females) with myocardial infarction and78 healthy controls (28 men, 50 females) were included to this study. DNA wasextracted by High Pure PCR Template Preparation kit (Roche Diagnostic, Germany).The mutations were determined by Real-Time PCR (Light Cycler).Results: Tumor necrosis factor-beta A329G gene polymorphism was not significantlyassociated with myocardial infarction. 42,2 % of subjects had AG genotype and 6,7 %of subjects had GG genotype in patients with myocardial infarction.Conclusion: It was observed that there has not been any relation between tumornecrosis factor-beta A329G gene polymorphism and myocardial infarction. This studycould lighten other studies, and different polymorphisms of tumor necrosis factor-betacould be investigated.Key Words: Cardiovascular diseases, cytokine, gene polymorphism, myocardialinfarction, tumor necrosis factor-beta
