Observation on the treatment and incidence of foot diseases of cattle in Tunceli and its vicinity

81 6. SUMMARY The foot diseases cause very important problems in cattle breeding. These diseases have multifactorial etiology. There are a lot of different effects having important roles for foot diseases. Especially, malnutrition, genetics, primer and seconder infections are very effective on foot diseases and abnormal foot conditions. İn study, in the 86 claws only digital deformities, in 26 claws were seen only foot diseases. However, in the 153 claws were observed deformities and different digital diseases due to occur deformities. Digital deformites and diseases were found totally 239 claws (at the front 32 and hind 207, in lateral 153, medial 40, bilateral 46). Classification of the deformities and diseases as follows: Owergrown claw in 132 (%55.23), blunt claw in 8 (%3.35), splay claw in 11 (%4.60), scissor claw 21 (%8.79), splay claw 24 (%10.04), corkscrew claw 43 (%17.99). As a conclusion, in study has shown that there was a important role of the digital deformites and hoof care in the etiology of digital diseases. Dematitis interdigitalis in 15 (%8.38), erosio ungulae in 18 (%10.06), heel abscess in 3 (%1.68), Umax in 11 (%6.15), interdigital necrobasillosis in 24 (%13.41), podo. asep. diffusa in 23 (%12.85), podo. circu. in 3 (%1.68), podo. septica in 15 (%8.38), fissura ungulae in 13 (%7.26), podoartritis ptulenta in 4 (%2.23), bruised sole and bulb in 19 (%10.61), traumatic wall ulcer in 5 (%2.79), white line disease in 19 (%10.61), dermatitis digitalis in 7 (%3.91). Following the identification of lesions, the treatments were conducted in accordance with the known methods. İn this study, foot diseases and hoof deformations in 1688 catties in and around Tunceli were researched. The results are given in tables. Hoof deformations either were treated on the spot cattle breeders were given advices about the foot and hoof care.
