Cyberloafing in tourism establishments: A study on tourism accommodation establishments in Kusadasi

Abstract (EN)

This study intends to determine if workers engage in cyberloafing activities during working hours in tourism establishments. The research was carried out in four and five star hotels that operate in Kuşadası. Research data was collected by means of a questionnaire technique consisting of eleven items as well as a semi-structured interview technique. This paper consists of three parts: The first part is related to tourism industry and information technologies while in the second part, literature review regarding cyberloafing is taken into consideration structuring a theoretical framework. In the third part, collected data concerning the cyberloafing activities of employees in tourism establishments operating in Kuşadası is evaluated. In the light of the information gathered through the statistics, analyses and information processing centre; it was found out that employees in tourism establishments engage in cyberloafing activities. Through gender variable within the employees' demographic information, it was discovered that male employees engage in cyberloafing more than female employees do.
