Relationship between work-family conflict and emotional labor in tourism employees

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between work-family conflicts and emotional labor, on the other hand, to determine how the relationship in question changes in terms of demographic variables. In this context, the findings obtained through a questionnaire study with the employees in group A travel agencies were evaluated. In the literature review conducted within the scope of the thesis, the focus was on the effect of work-family conflict, emotional labor and work-family conflict on emotional labor. In the first two chapters of the thesis, explanations are given within the framework of the understanding obtained through the literature review under these topics. In this context, a survey was applied to 150 participants working in group A travel agencies within the framework of the thesis study. With the questionnaire forms, it was aimed to determine the perceptions of employees about the relationship between work-family conflicts and their emotional labor. Correlation analysis was conducted to determine whether there is a relationship between work-family conflict and emotional labor. Independent sample T test was conducted for two-category variables to determine whether their work-family conflict and emotional labor differ according to their demographic characteristics. As a result of the research, no significant relationship was found between work-family conflict and emotional labor. It is observed that in cases where employees experience workfamily conflict, they do not reflect this to their behavior at work and that employees have a high tendency to exhibit emotional behaviors required by the profession. As a result of Anova and t-test analyzes conducted to determine whether there are significant differences between the demographic characteristics of the employees and the dimensions of emotional labor behaviors, the working times of emotional labor in the tourism sector; It was determined that work-family conflicts differ according to gender, age, marital status, educational status and working time in the tourism sector they work for the most recently. It has been concluded that the participants who work in the tourism business they work for more than 7 years have low work-family conflicts and high emotional labor levels, those with less than 1 year of work experience high levels of work-family conflict and their emotional labor levels are moderate.
