The socio-economic peculiarities of the population changes in tourism locations and its effects on education (Foça sample)

Differences in the socio-economic structure of the population due to touristic activities have same effects on young generation who are at the age of education. Our study area Foça, İzmir, a developing tourism centre, is a location where the changes in structure of the population can be observed clearly.In order to put forward the socio-economic peculiarities of the population and its effects on education, some of the information about touristic investments and touristic urbanazation process has been taken from Foça Municipality?s records and demographic data have been obtained from TUİK. In addition to these, tourism statistics (used in this study) have been taken from TR Ministry of Culture and Tourism and educational information from Directorates of National Education. Other data acquired from the results of questionnaires applied to subjects who are 8th grade students and their parents at four primary school selected according to Foça?s rural conditions.From 1960s on, with influential upward movements in tourism, Turkey had to determine its direction in this sector. Having various aspects such as payment balance and employment problems, tourism also have some effects on the socio-economic structure of the population.From 1980s on, tourism has begun to change appearance of Foça, once an agricultural and fishery town. Thus the town has been subjected to a rapid urbanization. This has had some social and economic results such as a rise ın women?s employment rate, change in occupational preferences of the students and developments in construction and transport sectors. Moreover, cultural pecularities of people of town has begun to change as well.Foça has settled its touristic potential on sea-sand-sun triangle and most of the tourism activities are domestic level, second house construction and continuing settlement of retired people in town are definite prooves of this situation. Foça is different from Other similar Aegean towns, Çeşme, Kuşadası, Bodrum, in that it demonsrates much more inclanition to internal tourism.As a result, for locations like Foça, it is impossible to think about tourism without affecting changes in the socio-economic structure of the population. Tourism have both important roles ao young generation who continue their education at primary schools and on national economy. Therefore, in this study tourism and its effects on both students and inhabitants of the town as well as its enviromental results have been studied and interpreted with reference to one another.
