Abstract (EN)
In this study, in which concepts such as security, securitization, national, regional and international security are explained, the influence of the terrorist organization PKK in the relations between Turkey and the USA, in which close relations have been established since the first years of the Republic, is examined, the interests of the USA in the Middle East, Turkey's position, Turkey's changing foreign policy approach and regional problems are discussed. The PKK terrorist organization, which has caused great damage to Turkey in material and moral terms since the 1980s and directly threatened Turkey's political, military and economic situation in the region, has been accepted as a Terrorist Organization by global actors such as the EU and the USA. The PKK has touched regional dynamics to the detriment of Turkey, and has been in an effort to establish close relations with the United States, with which it had pro-arguments during the cold war. The USA, which established direct relations with the PKK after the Gulf War, has made an effort to create a subcontractor structure in the Middle East region for its global and regional interests. The USA, which first entered Afghanistan and then Iraq after the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, became the southern neighbor of Turkey and took control of the oil and natural gas lines. In bilateral relations; After the Arab Spring process, Turkey-US relations, which gave important tests such as the 1964 Johnson letter incident, the Jupiter missile crisis, the Cyprus Peace Operation, the Poppy issue and the March 1 resolution, faced new national, regional and international problems. The PKK's transforming structure in the Middle East and the US's rapprochement with PKK-affiliated structures have caused Turkey to have security concerns that it has not experienced before. Turkey, which carries out a multi-dimensional foreign policy at the point of ensuring its national security, has dealt with the problems it faces with Realist realities, and has resorted to securitization to protect its interests and survival. In this study, how the concept of security affects Turkey-US relations, in particular, the effect of PKK/PYD/YPG/PJAK terrorist organization, which has been shaped according to the conjuncture it has been in since its establishment, on Turkey- USA relations has been evaluated.
