In beginning of Turkish-American relationship Ottoman diplomacy (1776-1830)

This dissertation aims to study the beginning of Ottoman-US relations mainly the period of 1776 and 1830. The bilateral relations of the two nations for the named period were examined mainly in the context of bilateral diplomatic relations, directed by the available Ottoman resources. It can be said that the policies of the named period followed by the Empire were relatively neglected by the previous researches. In this study it's observed the present studies about the beginning of the Ottoman-American relations extensively used the American archaival resources but neglected the Ottoman ones. Thus, In the study, Ottoman archive documents, various Ottoman chronicles, and translations were used so most of the narratives forming the plot of the study were examined from the perspective of the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, it has been made possible to analyze and understand the policies that the Empire has followed in this certain period. In this study, it is also aimed to shed light to the origins of the two countries commercial and social relations those developed throughout the 19th century.
