Abstract (EN)
Radical changes took place in the fine arts with declaration of the Republic. These radical changes, which we can mostly observe in the field of music, aimed to create a completely new musical language. Atatürk wanted the musicians of the period to develop a polyphonic musical language inspired by their own sources, and the musicians created their works accordingly. The Turkish Five, who were among the first generation of contemporary Turkish composers of the Republican era, pioneered the national music understanding with their works that drew their inspiration from folk culture, as suggested by Atatürk. Considered as the founding figures of contemporary Turkish music, the Turkih Five gave great support to the musical revolution initiated by Atatürk with their authentic works of art. İn this thesis, the inclusion of folkloric elements in the musical works of Ahmet Adnan Saygun, Cemal Reşit Rey, Ulvi Cemal Erkin, Hasan Ferit Alnar and Necil Kazım Akses, who are known as the Turkish Five, has been evaluated from a folkloric perspective. Keywords: Music, Turkish Five, Folklore, Folk Culture
